Distinction in Research and Creative Work
Students completing an Honors thesis of extraordinary quality may in turn be considered for the Rice University Distinction in Research and Creative Works. Eligibility for the Distinction in Research and Creative Works award may also be based on research and creative projects other than the thesis, provided they demonstrate extraordinary dedication to research. Such projects may have been pursued in part at other institutions.
The application to the Distinction award is by portfolio. The latter will include either a thesis, or 2 to 3 seminar papers of 15-25 pages, or other work of similar length demonstrating excellence. The portfolio should be accompanied by a letter of nomination written by the student’s advisor, the director of undergraduate studies, or some other member of the French Studies faculty.
The French Studies Undergraduate Committee judges the projects and determines whether or not it will be awarded Distinction. The deadline for final submission of required materials is April 15.
