This course, offered annually and required of all majors, builds naturally on FREN 301. It emphasizes composition and exposition through the practice of such genres as narration, description, portrait, essay, and commentaire compose. Formerly FREN 336. This undergraduate course analyzes French and American culture and identity through transatlantic encounters. We study French intellectuals (Tocqueville, Beauvoir, Baudrillard) who traveled to the US, and images of America in French novels, comic strips, films. We also examine American gazes toward the French.
